A-List Beauty: Julianne Moore is the New Ambassador for L’Oréal Wednesday 30 January, 2013

Julianne-Moore-L'oreal-Spokesperson

Julianne Moore is the new face of L’Oréal Paris Renaissance Cellulaire line. Here, she shares her take on aging, entering her 50s and what the famous L’Oréal Paris tagline “Because You’re Worth It” means to her.

I’ve always found actress Julianne Moore to be absolutely stunning—a true fearless beauty. She has those chiseled cheekbones that most people try to mimic through contouring; alabaster skin that she’s babied (and it shows); and that red hair that—let’s be honest—is hard to replicate with boxed hair color (though a good colorist can probably get you there…probably).

Recently, L’Oréal Paris announced Julianne’s ascent to ambassador of the Renaissance Cellulaire line, and in doing so, made me realize Julianne must have bottled the Fountain of Youth’s contents. Are you ready to guess how old she is? Because I guessed a whole 10 years under the truth—and that’s a pretty large spread. This gorgeous lady is actually 52—and unapologetic about the aging process. Do you know what this means? A skin care brand actually tapped a spokeseperson who reflects the end user. She’s not an 18-year-old pushing wrinkle-reducers; she’s a woman in her 50s who, yes, has probably taken better care of her skin than most, but is definitely going through the throes of crow’s feet and elastin and collagen breakdown. She’s the perfect person to make a believer out of me.

“Skin care is very important to me,” Julianne admits, adding that she’s been a strict devotee of daily sunscreen application for the past 29 years—undoubtedly the reason her complexion looks so darn good. Here, she shares her take on aging, entering her 50s and what the famous L’Oréal Paris tagline “Because You’re Worth It” means to her.

On entering her 50s:

“I feel that at the beginning of every decade of our life we reassess a little—an important birthday gives us a chance to think about ourselves and what we want to accomplish in our personal and professional lives. The 50s are particularly important because we have lived so much of our lives already, and realize how precious our time is.”

On the idea of renewal (which is the theme behind the Renaissance Cellulaire line) and how it relates to being a woman in her 50s:

“I did find that my daughter, who is 10, was very interested in telling everyone that I was 50. I think to her it seemed like a big accomplishment!”

On the differences of being 50 today as opposed to being 50 twenty years ago:

“I think we’re all living longer than we used to; we’re having our children later, so many of us still have children at home, and rather than facing retirement, we’re facing vibrant professional lives.”

On what gracefully aging means:

“For me, it’s very important to be where you are in your life, and appreciate that. We’re lucky to age; it’s a privilege to grow old. It’s important to remember to enjoy 50 because one day you’ll be 51! Our life experience brings us so much richness and knowledge. And I find that I am much more comfortable with myself as I grow older.”

On what L’Oréal Paris’ tagline “Because You’re Worth It” means to her:

“That every woman is worth time and care; that we must take the time to invest in ourselves because every human being counts.”

On her makeup routine:

“I am very fair, so if I want to define my face, I must use cosmetics! Particularly mascara and blush! When I go out, I always use Voluminous Million Lashes. I also like to put on some L’Oréal Paris Glam Bronze Bronzing Powder or a light, summery feeling. And, like every woman, I love a little concealer!”

On her skin care (which she’s obviously doing right!):

“Skin care is very important to me. After I was my face with a gentle cleanser, I apply a face oil, and then a moisturizer with a sunscreen. I have used daily sunscreen since I was 23 years old! For my daily skincare, I like Renaissance Cellulaire’s rich formula; it gives my skin that certain glow.”

What do you think of Julianne’s perspective on aging? Is she your new beauty hero? Sound off in the comments!
