Red Carpet Beauty: Nails at the 2013 Golden Globes Wednesday 16 January, 2013
Nails are becoming a big presence on the red carpet—and the 70th Golden Globes Awards are no exception. Check out the best red carpet manicures, including Kelly Osbourne, Adele, Zooey Deschanel and more!
If you’re an avid reader of Fear No Beauty, then you know how I feel about the nail game by now: I’ve worked on a professional nail magazine for 12 years, and have now just wrapped the first issue of Nail It!, a new consumer nail magazine (hitting a newsstand near you February 19; you can get yours now at nailitmag.com). I love nails. I live for them. I’ve always found them to be a fun, noncommittal way to change up your day-to-day beauty. And it appears that celebrities are now in on that secret. To wit: the 70th Golden Globes Awards red carpet saw quite a few extraordinary manicures (and, E!’s mani cam was in full effect!). Whether simple 3-D accent nails or full-coverage metallic color, the looks are all extremely red-carpet worthy. Here’s the best of the best.
Anne Hathaway has joined the nail game as an official mani-trendsetter. Nail expert Alicia Torello used a coat of Chanel Le Vernis Nail Color in Pearl Drop, and then imprinted nails randomly with tiny pearls.
Jennifer Lawrence may have caused chatter with her Dior Haute Couture dress (how many tweets can one amass about their breasts, one might ask?), but she kept her nails pristine with an April Foreman-applied polish job using two coats of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Sheer Ecstasy.
Ever the nail design test-driver, Kelly Osbourne took the “heart-shaped” French to a whole new level by filing her nails to a point.
L’Oréal nail expert Tom Bachik gave one of his main nail gals, Zooey Deschanel, a Golden Globes-perfect nail art design: hand-painted film strips and projector!
Downton Abbey never saw nails like this! The show’s Michelle Dockery rocked a gilded manicure courtesy of Deborah Lippmann Nail Lacquer in Nefertiti.
I’m all for the matchy-matchy look! Julianne Hough matched her tips to her clutch, sporting a bordeaux nail bed tipped with gold.
Celebrity manicurist Kimmie Kyees coated Adele’s signature pointy talons in a sheer coat of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in So Much Fawn with two coats of Complete Salon Manicure in Copper Penny over top. Kyees finished off the look with an exclusive gold-infused topcoat created especially for Adele.
Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland, who is also no stranger to a little bit of nail bling, upped the dark-nail ante with a single strip of gold wire across each nail.
So who’s nails take the “best of the red carpet” award? Sound off in the comments!
