Pro Logic, NYFW Edition: Elle Predicts Fall Nail Polishes Sunday 26 February, 2012
Manicurist to the stars, Elle, gives her predictions on which polish colors will be scoring high marks with you come Fall 2012.
Backstage at the Fall 2012 Richard Chai Love show, I ran into friend and nail talent, Elle. She’s been working with nail polish brand Essie, and was on hand to talk about the nail look for the show (a blend of two coats of warm beige Essie Glamour Purse and one coat of Man-E-Cure over top to lend a subtle matte finish—an inspired nail that mimics “the gorgeous wool and cashmere clothing” found in the collection). Of course, I had to ask her—even though it was literally Day One of Fashion Week—what she predicts for Fall 2012 polish colors.
“Brick reds, gold reds, almost a black but it’s green,” she opined. “No more ‘greiges’, but we’ll see taupes that have a little bit of lavender to them. A little bit more edge, a little bit more opaque than last season.”
At that point, the nail Elle created for the Richard Chai Love show was the first matte nail I had seen of the season. Many more matte nails followed (particularly, matte beiges). Was matte going to be a thing for next season? Is this the texture story—rather than crackles and glitter—for fall? “Well…maybe. I think matte is great because you can use it as a design element,” Elle said. “You can do matte stripes or dots on a shiny polish job, which creates great visual interest.”
So there you have it: Fall polish will be rich, opaque and edgy…and maybe even matte. Can’t wait to dip my digits into it all! Can you?
