Pretty P.O.V.: Essie Winter 2012 Nail Polish Collection Friday 16 November, 2012
Regal, royal and elegant: Essie’s Winter 2012 nail polish collection ties together seemingly disparate colors with a common throne-bound thread.
When the Essie Winter 2012 polish collection entered my life, I’ll admit: I was a bit confused. Looking at it from a color vantage point, it seemed like two disparate collections. Here you have these two stunning blue hues, bright turquoise Where’s My Chauffeur? and the to-die-for cobalt Butler Please. And then you have silvery-gold Beyond Cozy, scarlet She’s Pampered, orange-red Snap Happy and glitter-packed crimson Leading Lady. It’s like two different nail polish personalities, all crammed into one collection.
I scratched my head.
(Colors, clockwise from top middle: Where’s My Chauffeur?, Butler Please, Beyond Cozy, Leading Lady, She’s Pampered and Snap Happy)
And then, I learned that there most certainly are two personalities that inform this collection, but they have a strong tie: They’re both regal, royal and elegant. Essie founder Essie Weingarten explained that the color grouping is “one part Queen Elizabeth, two parts Duchess of Cambridge.” Ahhhh…I get it. So I’m going to assume that the reds belong in the Queen Elizabeth camp, and the blues with Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton. Though I wonder if the Duchess will ever wear bright cobalt on her fingertips? Wouldn’t that be a sight to see?
For me, the stand-out of this collection is Butler Please. I know that’s not a surprise, but it really is a cool shade. It’s bold, yet still classy. Edgy, but remarkably sophisticated. I have a bunch of cobalts in my arsenal, and it’s just a little different than all the rest. Wear it tipped with a little Beyond Cozy, and you have yourself a gorgeous holiday manicure.
(Tobey Cat seems to have both personalities; he absolutely adores this collection!)
