Event Space: Anselm Reyle for Dior Pop-Up at Saks Saturday 07 January, 2012

Last month, Dior headed south to glam the already glamorous art world at Art Basel Miami Beach. No, I wasn’t invited, but I didn’t need to be to experience the brand’s first-ever artist collaboration, Anselm Reyle for Dior (more on that in a few beats). Reyle injected a bit of his neon funk into Dior accessories and beauty items that are drool-worthy at best. (A purple, silver and black camo eye shadow palette is almost too good to muss with a shadow brush!) Dior “popped up” a pop-up shop at Art Basel (because that’s the thing to do these days)—but not without providing the requisite beauty bar. And that beauty was bequeathed at the hand of celebrity nail tech TracyLee, who Dior asked to craft camouflage nail art that matches Reyle’s print to a T. Let me just say that TracyLee is beyond gifted; I’ve commissioned her myself for my Nailpro column, “Polished Look,” which takes looks from the runway and reinterprets them into nail art. She delivers the most out-of-the-box nail designs each time, utilizing all different types of mediums to make these mini pieces of art come to life.
TracyLee delivered the goods (three stunning camo nails) to Dior, and flew down with the brand to Miami to treat the cool kids of Art Basel to her special brand of mani beauty. Flash-forward to this month, and the Anselm Reyle for Dior beauty collab is now available to the masses exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue and Dior online…which is how I got to check it out. TracyLee invited me to swing by Saks, where she was doling out manicures (featuring her Dior camo nail art!) using the five ultra-saturated, Reyle-approved polish hues in the collection. I’m a sucker for blue nail polish, so it’s no shocker that I chose Dior Vernis in Electric Blue for my main hue. And then for my camouflage nail, I selected TracyLee’s design that blends Dior Vernis Pink Graffiti, Metallic Silver and Untitled Black. (The other two nail designs she created feature the fifth polish in the collection, Ultra Violet.)
I have to say, I am in love with this mani. I’ve recently been digging the idea of merging hot pink with neon blue in fashion (say, a bright blue accessory against a retina-searing pink shirt), so this was right up my ally.
What do you think of this nail look?
