When I work on photo shoots, I’m often introduced to makeup items that I instantly become obsessed with. One such item crossed paths with me at a beauty editorial I did for Beauty Etc.‘s Summer 2011 issue. I had come across some beautiful photographs of sunsets, where the sky faded from violet to lavender to salmon to coral in a very dreamy, sort of fuzzy way. Seeing as the story was to be set for summer, I thought that combining the hazy feel of these images with the gorgeous cool and warm tones of the setting sun, would make for a great makeup editorial. I reached out to Stila pro makeup artist Jason Araujo, who I had met at The Makeup Show in New York, to help bring this story to life. The story, “Sunset Drenched,” is a favorite of mine; it’s diffused lighting and mix of bright and soft makeup hues really speaks to summer beauty.

But my favorite look from the shoot, a tawny blast of warm neutrals made more glamorous by lids cast in molten shimmer, is where I made my makeup item discovery. The object of my desire: Stila Cosmetics Kitten Glitter Eye Liner. Now, prior to this, I will openly admit I didn’t known much about the whole cult-like following of Stila’s Kitten items. The beauty brand has a multitude of products that exalt the Kitten hue: Eyeshadow, Smudge Pot, All Over Shimmer Powder, One Step Primecolor, Lip Glaze, Silk Shimmer Gloss and Glitter Eye Liner. Obviously, the color’s a winner. It’s a pink champagne that instantly brightens the complexion—and who doesn’t want an instantly brighter complexion?

But the Kitten Glitter Eye Liner is more than pinked champagne: It’s a fulgent delight jam-packed with pink, gold, bronze, rose gold and champagne glitters. I mean, Hello sparkle! That’s quite the testament to twinkle.

I recently cast some Kitten Glitter Eye Liner on my lids, and it truly lit up my eyes. A few notes: Because it’s a liquid liner that isn’t waterproof, it’s dry time is a little slow, so you have to have some patience before blinking a ton. Also, it can crease if you try to coat your lid in the sparkly stuff. But a eyeshadow primer should help keep the twinkle in place and lessen any creasing. (I’m partial to Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion.)

I’m thinking Kitten Glitter Eye Liner is a great addition to both your spring and summer beauty kit, wouldn’t you agree?
