Red Carpet Beauty: 2012 SAG Awards Wednesday 01 February, 2012

Another day, another awards show, another red carpet chock full of beauty designs to marvel at. The 18th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards witnesses fishtail braids and peppy coral lips—beauty guises that are both lively and lovely…and unequivocally fearless.

Another day, another awards show. I wonder if actresses look forward to this time of year, if they are giddy with anticipation of trying on a gazillion spangled gowns and shackling their arms, fingers and earlobes with millions of dollars worth of baubles? Or do they dread it—dread the makeup and hair chair, the poking of hair pins, the spackling of foundation. I would wager a bet that it’s the former, rather than the latter…wouldn’t you?

And so, the 18th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards descended on Hollywood, and the red carpet flooded with the requisite regal glamour A-listers have come to know and love. But let me say this: The beauty delighted. I spied a fishtail braid tucked like a crown—a textural tidbit that bested other hairdos, bar none—and a fabulously vivid pink-y coral lip that looked so brilliantly fresh against alabaster skin and a golly-gosh-green dress. The SAG Awards red carpet didn’t disappoint on the hair and makeup front, and for that, I am a happy lady. I hope this is a primer for what’s to come for the Oscars…one can hope, right?

Here’s a look at how to get some of the beauty flaunted at the SAG Awards.

Dianna Agron 2012 SAG Awards Braided Hair

Dianna Agron: hair by Adir Abergel

(Products Used: Fekkai)

Overall Inspiration: A style that would mimic the movement of her ruffle-detailed Carolina Herrera dress

Get the Look:

1. Prep wet strands with Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Cream, starting at the roots and pulling it through the ends.

2. Begin rough-drying using your hands, and follow by spritzing on Fekkai Oceanique Tousled Wave Spray to heighten texture. Continue rough-drying to further enhance piecey-ness and texture.

3. Once dry, craft a fishtail braid, starting at the left side of the head, near the ear. The braid should look slightly roughed-up and not too precise.

4. Wrap the braid along the top of the head, much like a tiara, and secure with pins.

5. Take the rest of the hair, and create three additional fishtail braids.

6. Twist the three braids together at the back of the head in a labyrinth chignon, and secure with pins.

7. Finish with a mist of hairspray to secure the style.

Emma Stone 2012 SAG Awards Makeup

Emma Stone: makeup by Chanel celebrity makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua

(Products Used: Chanel and Revlon)

1. Apply Chanel Perfection Lumière Long-Wear Flawless Fluid Makeup to even skin tone.

2. Pump warmth into cheeks with Blush Horizon de Chanel Glowing Blush Harmony, a radiant mix of coral, rose and peach tones.

3. Matte down skin with a light application of Revlon PhotoReady Finishing Powder in Translucent.

4. Put focus on the eyes with a cat eye, drawn using Revlon Liquid Eye Pen in Black.

5. Sweep Revlon ColorStay 16H Eyeshadow Quad in Moonlit across the lid, and define and lengthen lashes with Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara.

6. Finish the look with a healthy, glossed rose-pink pout, first lined with Chanel Precision Lip Definer in Framboise and filled in with Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Sari D’Eau.

Tina Fey 2012 SAG Awards Hairstyle

Tina Fey: hair by Richard Marin and makeup by Gita Bass for Votre Vu

(Products Used: Oribe Hair Care and Votre Vu)

Overall Hair Inspiration: “To complement her vintage Gianni Versace dress, I went with simple hair: pulled back off the face, a center part and a chignon bun at the back of the head,” Richard says.

Get the Look:

1. Prep wet hair with Oribe Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray to lend shine to your blow-out.

2. Brush hair into a high ponytail and secure it with a snagless hair band.

3. Spray your ponytail with Oribe Superfine Hair Spray to lock in hold. Twist the ponytail until it starts to coil into itself, and pin the bun into place.

4. Personalize the look to suit your face shape by pulling out bangs or a few strands around the face, which also softens the look.

5. Apply a final mist of Oribe Superfine Hair Spray to smooth any flyaways.

Overall Makeup Inspiration: The va-va-voom factor of Tina’s strapless Versace gown signaled the makeup direction. “We wanted her look to be equally classic and sexy,” Gita relays.

Get the Look:

1. Start by spritzing the entire face with Votre Vu Amour D’Ore Multi-Vitamin Oil for Face, Body and Hair. “It adds long-lasting hydration, primes for makeup and gives the complexion a gorgeous glow,” Gita says.

2. Apply Votre Vu Tragic Magic Rescue Creme to soothe and eliminate any redness.

3. To  brighten and soothe the eye area, gently pat on Votre Vu Tout le Monde Antioxidant Eye Gelee, allow it to absorb, and then apply a light layer of Votre Vu SpecialEyes Intensive Eye Treatment to smooth any crepey skin.

4. Accentuate the natural brow arch with Votre Vu WonderBrows..

5. Lay a thin layer of Votre Vu Sensational Eyes Eye Primer in Medium on the lids as a budge-proof eye makeup base.

6. Dab on Votre Vu Champagne Kisses Volume Enhancing Lip Balm to act as an anchor for lip color.

7. To set the look and ensure a flawless finish, dust on Votre Vu Mineral Powder in Light. “I also made Tina put the powder in her clutch so she can do touch-ups throughout the night!” Gita shares.

8. And, don’t forget your body! A strapless dress shows plenty of skin, so apply a generous amount of  Votre Vu Snapdragon Antioxidant-Rich Citrus Body Drench to keep skin looking lustrous and healthy. Follow by spritizing Votre Vu Amour D’Ore Multi-Vitamin Oil for Face, Body and Hair on any areas you want to highlight, like the decolletage and shoulders, for added sheen.

Kristen Wiig SAG Awards 2012 Tan

Kristen Wiig: glow by Fiona Locke

(Products Used: St. Tropez)

Overall Inspiration: “I wanted to give Kristen’s fair skin a lift of color after a long, cold New York winter,” Fiona explains. “It was important to create a slight contrast in the skin while keeping it a natural, healthy tone to help bring life to her amazing red carpet look. A little contouring on the arms to enhance her petite frame was the final touch for the raven-haired beauty.”

Get the Look:

1. Prep skin by exfoliating to remove dead skin cells and any debris that will produce uneven color results.

2. Spray on St. Tropez’s Self Tan Spray using long, controlled strokes.

Rose Byrne 2012 SAG Awards Hair

Rose Byrne: hair by Harry Josh

(Products Used: John Frieda)

Overall Inspiration: Create a ’70s style a la Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface to play up her fun Elie Saab jumpsuit.

Get the Look:

1. While hair is still wet, spray roots with John Freida Full Repair Lift Foam to lend weightless lift.

2. To suss out max shine, use a natural bristle round brush as you blow-out strands. Make sure you angle the direction of the blow dryer downward to amp up shine.

3. Wrap hair around Velcro curlers to ensure the ends curl slightly under; this will also ensure the volume you built at the roots will be maintained.

4. Release the curlers, and run a tiny amount of John Frieda Full Repair Perfect Ends Deep Infusion over the ends to draw out even more shine.

Emily Blunt 2012 SAG Awards Makeup

Emily Blunt: makeup by Jenn Streicher

(Products Used: Chanel, Clarins, Dior, SK II, Stila Cosmetics, Tom Ford Beauty and YSL Beauty)
