Pretty Peek: Cynthia Rowley for Tweezerman Designer Series Thursday 05 July, 2012
Fashion designer Cynthia Rowley teams up with everyone’s favorite plucker, Tweezerman, for the Cynthia Rowley for Tweezerman Designer Series limited edition collection.
Packed into fashion designer Cynthia Rowley‘s Bleecker Street store are beauty types and fashion figures…and also, two towering printed tweezers that could feasibly be used on Paul Bunyan—you know, if he were real.
The tweezers aren’t just for show; they’re part of the launch party for the newest Tweezerman Designer Series Collection, this time with Rowley as the chosen tweezer prettifier. “I think beauty tools should be beautiful,” she tells me. “I love that I get to put my own fresh twist on this cult-classic product!”
(Two giant Cynthia Rowley for Tweezerman Slant Tip Tweezers are on the hunt for unibrows at the launch event at Rowley’s Bleecker Street store.)
Her twist comes in the form of what she’s calling a variety of “Sporty Foulard” prints, each graphic yet clean, sporty and somewhat prepster-approved. I can visualize tony schoolgirls plucking their brows with these tweezers—though the prints’ appeal certainly will be more widespread than simply playing to the whims of Gossip Girls.
Speaking of those prints, Conny Wittke, chief executive officer and president of Tweezerman International, tells me that it’s no small feat screening patterns onto the extremely specialized, velvety-feeling finish of Tweezerman’s tweezers handle. “Because of this patented surface, the technology behind how we have to screen prints is not so easy, so there’s a lot of back-and-forth with the designer to marry their vision with the realities of what we have to work with,” she says. In this particular case, the end designs required multiple layers of screening, which Conny says provided a sort of happy accident: “The printed layers give this added grip to it; the print works like a gripper!”
Conny is thrilled with how Rowley’s designs turned out, saying, “We always want a designer who is high-quality and high-fashion like us, but also who can work on small surfaces; it’s a special challenge that not everyone can do. But I think Cynthia’s great; she came up with bold colors and prints that fit well, and are ultimately gorgeous.”
The limited edition, four-piece Cynthia Rowley for Tweezerman collection includes the Filemate Nail File, Mini Slant Tweezers and two different full-size Slant Tweezers, and is available exclusively at Sephora and on sephora.com starting at the end of July.
