Pretty P.O.V.: NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl Wednesday 26 June, 2013
Spotted: The perfect brightest-bright matte red lip color via NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl.
Brightest-bright, matte red lips: When I seem them, it’s like there’s this gravitational pull, and I find myself standing in front of the person who’s mouth I’m ogling, and the words, “What are you wearing?” come tumbling out. It’s like I’m a matte red lipstick hunter, and, as you know, I live in Manhattan, the biggest lipstick jungle out there. So, the aforementioned scenario constantly happens. And I’m always on the hunt.
Case in point: Last week I popped in to the new Original & Mineral salon in Meatpacking (located right next door to Brass Monkey), and the PR gal on hand greeted me with the sunniest smile (and most killer Alexander Wang top—to die for), made sunnier by a gorgeous matte red tincture. I didn’t want to crowd her with my “What are you wearing?” question right off the bat, so I waited, silently stalking the right moment. Finally, I broke. Her answer: NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl.
As soon as I left Original & Mineral, I hauled butt over to Sephora and purchased Dragon Girl. And I love it—so much so, that I’ve worn it every single day since I purchased it. Here are the reasons why I adore it so:
Reason No. 1: It’s a pencil—albeit, a chubby one—which makes it a breeze to fill in my lips without getting mussy along the lip line. When you’re working with a matte, full-pigment hue, if you color outside of the lines, it can be a bitch to clean up. This is fool-proof.
Reason No. 2: Though it’s matte, it truly is velvety to the touch. You can rub your lips together without it feeling dry and puckery…even a couple of hours later.
Reason No. 3: It lasts. And lasts. And lasts. The only thing that makes it wear-off sooner rather than later is drinking tons of water (which I’m forcing myself to do these days).
Reason No. 4: The red of Dragon Girl has just the tiniest hint of a fuchsia undertone. So, yes, it’s a bright, siren-worthy red, but it’s also got a tone to it that gives it a little extra something special.
Why you too should have no fear: See Reasons 1 through 4.
