New York Fashion Week: Day Two Makeup Friday 10 February, 2012

Well, between my nose and my lips, one was vying to be the most red…and my lips got a boost in the red run with the help of Make Up For Ever. (My nose, on the other hand, got its rosy cast from a sleeve of Kleenex.) It’s Day Two of Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, and as promised, I tried out a makeup look I picked up from one of the runway shows I attended.

I chose Tadashi Shoji’s bold, dabbed-on-and-diffused vermillion lip, created by MAC lead artist Luc Bouchard, who used MAC Pro Lipmix in Crimson for his models. “This Lipmix is very matte and satiny; the pigment is powerful, you don’t need much,” he told me.

I didn’t have any Lipmix handy, so I came up with my own concoction, and I kept the dabbing to a minimum because what may look amazing on a 16-year-old genetically blessed model looks downright clown-like on a 30-something editor. (First try at the dabbing = drunk clown.) I needed a little more precision.

Here’s a breakdown of the products I used to get my Day Two look:

Day Two Fashion Week My Makeup Products

Cheeks: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Deep and MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Triple Fusion (as highlighter)

Eyelids: Lorac Eye Shadow in Negligee and Illamasqua Pure Pigment in Beguile

Lips: Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense in 48 (which I dabbed on around the perimeter of my mouth) and 42 (which I used to fill in the entire lip and dial down the dabbing effect)

Next up: Day Three! (I hear it’s going to snow…)
