New York Fashion Week: Day Four Makeup Thursday 16 February, 2012

Purple eye shadow is one of those beauty products that everyday women tend to shy away from. I’m not really sure why. Perhaps it’s because they believe purple may draw attention to dark circles or skin discolorations—or worse, that they look like they’re rocking a black eye. But I beg to differ! Purple eye shadow is one of those beauty products that everyday women tend to shy away from. I’m not really sure why. Perhaps it’s because they believe purple may draw attention to dark circles or skin discolorations—or worse, that they look like they’re rocking a black eye. But I beg to differ! Violet, lavender, amethyst—they all look amazing with all different eye colors. So when I saw makeup artist Diane Kendal for Jill Stuart Cosmetics/Beauty.com painting a gorgeous purple eye backstage at the Jill Stuart show, I knew that was going to be my makeup inspiration for Day Four of Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. But, per the usual, I needed to tweak it a tad. Rather than pull the color all the way up to my brow, as Kendal did for the Jill Stuart lovelies, I kept a little distance between arch and hue.

Here are the products that gave my eyelids a lavender kick:

Day Four Fashion Week My Makeup Products

Cheeks: NARS Cosmetics Blush in Angelika (applied only on the apples—this color has both gold and silver flecks, perfect for a skin-brightening flush!)

Eyelids: Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color in V1305 (used as a base over whole lid); TIGI Bed Head After Party Long Wearing Cream Eyeshadow in Purple Haze* (applied to inner half of upper lid and lower lash line for a brighter kick of color); Too Faced Exotic Color Intense Eye Shadow in Violet Femme (applied over upper lid design to blend, and along lower lash line); and Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Loose Colour in Static (applied wet with a slant-tip liner brush just at the upper lash line to make the design more vibrant)

Lips: MAC Cosmetics Sheer Supreme Lipstick in Full Speed

* A word of caution: The TIGI cream shadow dries quickly and stays put, but, it can also look crepe-y if you over-apply. It’s best to keep a light hand.)

What do you think? Will you go purple on your eyelids?
