Let it be known: The elongated teal eyeliner at NAHM definitely stopped me in my tracks. The finish was milky, maybe chalky (in the low lighting, it was hard to tell—I felt bad for the makeup artists! How could they see what they were doing?). I was in such a hurry to make it to my next backstage that I didn’t even get a chance to talk to the lead makeup artist, so I haven’t the faintest clue what the inspiration was or what was used (though I believe MAC was behind the design). The look stuck with me, so on Day Five of Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, I decided to put liner to lash and see if I could do something in the same vein, minus some of  the theatrics.

As a side note: I was so moved by the teal color, that I dug up some clip-in extensions I procured from a Fashion’s Night Out event at Cynthia Rowley’s store a few years ago. The extensions were colored by Wella Professionals; the company had keyed Cynthia’s show the previous season, and were treating FNO revelers to clip-in extensions dyed to match the smorgasbord of unusual jewel tones they did for the hair in that very show. I thought the teal streaks were a nice little added detail to coincide with my teal eye design—and, man, did I get a ton of compliments!

But back to the makeup look. Here are the products that brought the design to life:

Day Five Fashion Week Makeup Products

Cheeks: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Deep (applied to the hollows of my cheeks) and Neutrogena Healthy Skin Custom Glow Bronzer in Sunrise Glow (applied along cheeks, hairline, down nose and on chin)

Eyelids: Jemma Kidd Hi-Design Eye Colour in Theater

Eyeliner: Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner in Diamond Turquoise Blue (applied along upper lash line in exaggerated cat eye, as well as on lower lash line) and MAC Cosmetics Pencil in WavyBlue (applied along inner corner of lash line to give that chalky “pop”—this color may have been what they used at NAHM, but I won’t swear by it!)

Lips: L’Oréal Paris Infallible 6-Hour Never Fail Lipgloss Gloss in Dulce de Leche

Obviously, I didn’t push the limits of my liner with an extreme exaggerated design, but it was pretty elongated. I guess the image just doesn’t do it justice…sigh. Makeup artists backstage that day kept commenting on the finish of my eyeliner—particularly the MUFE Aqua Liner. They couldn’t believe how glittery it reflected. I am quite addicted to that liner—it truly is rather remarkable in its high-pigment intensity and ability to stay put, no matter what.

So what do you think? Is teal a fresh hue for a cat eye?
