Dropping Knowledge: The False Eyelash Beauty Hack Friday 14 June, 2013
Frustrated by strip eyelash application? Try this easy beauty hack to cut down on time and save your sanity.
For all of my years writing about makeup—and all of my years attempting to master makeup’s many techniques—I’ve had very little success with false eyelash strips. My issue: When I apply eyelash strips, the inner corner of the strip inevitably pops up. This happens despite the fact that I first “curve/curl” the strip so that it follows the natural curvature of my eyelid. When that strip pops up, I’m forced to stick a sharp object (typically: tweezers or a toothpick) near my eye, haphazardly pressing sharp object to strip lash to eyelid so that the stubborn inner corner maybe, possibly, not very likely adheres to my lashes. It’s a practice that leaves me extremely grouchy…and kind of scared for my eye’s well being.
However, I’ve just learned a beauty “hack” (i.e. a way to totally master eyelash strips by cheating a little bit) for false lashes that has totally been a game-changer for me. Rather than apply the eyelash strip lash as a “whole,” cut the strip in three sections. These smaller, mini strips can then be adhered to your lash line with greater ease, and they don’t tend to pop up because of their shortened length. When I do it, I apply all three sections, gently butting them up against each other, making it appear as though they’re one piece. You really can’t tell—though, one giveaway is that I am considerably less grouchy after application!
And, you can take the concept a step further: Cutting your lashes into three sections allows you to maximize their wear if you decide you only want to use a section at a time, rather than all three at once. I suggest using one mini section at the outer corner of your lash line; it will make your eyes look super-wide.
Why you too should have no fear: Because it’s the best beauty hack out there, that’s why! But, seriously: If you’ve ever experienced the frustration of false eyelash strips, you’re guaranteed to be amazed at how much easier this makes your life. It saves you time, it could possibly save you money (if you decided to use the thirds individually, allowing you to extend the lash strip’s life for up to three wears), and it could save you from poking out your eye! (Just kidding…sort of.) You’ll want to use a pair of nail scissors as your snipping tool; their smaller size allows you to navigate between lash hairs so you don’t snip away any valuable batters!
