I Link It: 10 Hairs Oils for Every Need Monday 08 October, 2012

Hair oils are growing up! Lighter formulas that address all different hair needs abound, so which one is best for you?

I’m patting myself on the back right now. Why? Because I wrote the most comprehensive hair oils piece known to woman, 10 Hair Oils for Every Need, and it’s a must-read. Seriously: Mosey on over to Makeup.com and check it out before you invest in a hair oil.

But first, hair oils: Who needs ’em? In a word: everyone. If you feel a hint of hesitation due to the very nature of the product—it’s oil—you should know that this hair product genre is as good as it gets. Hair oils pack in tons of nourishing ingredients as well as protective bits, like antioxidants. They help cut-down on drying time, which in turn, cuts down the amount of heat-damage you inflict on your poor mane; they can help break up dirt and oils so that your shampoo can more effectively cleanse; and they’re super-dandy at softening and glossing tresses. How’s that for a multi-tasker?

(I tried out and researched a gazillion new hair oils to bring you the most comprehensive list possible!)

But, again: It’s oil! Doesn’t that cause hair to look, well, greasy? Thankfully, the newest generation of hair oils applies drier and lighter, assimilating into the hair with a weightlessness that makes these formulations seem as though they’re not even there. If you’re worried and want to do a little test run, squeeze a droplet onto the back of your hand and rub it in. Does it disappear almost immediately? The faster it “disappears,” the lighter the formula.

I have a favorite that didn’t make the cut in this story (only because it’s on the older side): Macadamia Natural Oil Healing Oil Treatment, which smells divine and gives my hair just the right amount of sheen and softness without any residual grease. (Although, you do need a light hand. Always err on the side of less is more with hair oils!) I apply it daily, after my shower, but before my blow-dry.

Truthfully: Since I discovered hair oils, I’m somehow able to justify the stress I put my hair through. I guess that’s a testament to just how great these hair products perform!

Do you have a favorite hair oil? Tell me all about it in the comments!
