Story Time: Leaving for Ireland! Saturday 31 March, 2012

So, 2011 was a tough year for my husband and me. Without getting in to too much detail, we roughed it out as a united front, and we just hoped that 2012 would be a nicer, gentler year. And so far, without jinxing it (as I knock on the wood of my office desk), 2012 […]

So, 2011 was a tough year for my husband and me. Without getting in to too much detail, we roughed it out as a united front, and we just hoped that 2012 would be a nicer, gentler year. And so far, without jinxing it (as I knock on the wood of my office desk), 2012 has been good to us. To celebrate some of the awesome things that have happened (my husband got a new job; my blog is chugging at a decent-enough pace), we decided to take a vacation…to Ireland! Literally, two weeks ago, we didn’t know we were going to Ireland, or that we would even be able to take a vacation. (For the record, we haven’t taken a vacation in two years. It’s needed. Badly.) And then, my husband got his job offer, and we thought, well, now’s as good a time as any. So off we go tomorrow.

I never got to show my St. Patty’s Day makeup, hair and nails, so I thought, hell, I’ll post it now (see above)—very fitting as we’ll be exploring Ireland’s countryside in two days’ time. (I’m so giddy!) I also decided that, in honor of the Irish, I’d stick on the new Avril Lavigne Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips in green glitter Beat You To It! so that I’d have a “luck of the Irish-inspired manicure for my trip. (I’ll be posting about these bad boys next week, BTW.)

Also, I don’t know about you, but packing travel-size beauty items completely sends me into a tailspin. I’m an over-packer by nature; I often have to take six or seven items out of my bag after I’ve shoved everything but the kitchen sink into it. My bags alway weigh in just shy of 50 lbs. I stand with my fingers crossed, palms sweaty, when I check them in, hoping I won’t have to pay the extra weight fee. (Listen: $25 is a lot of dough these days.)

Travel Size Beauty for My Vacation

Gratefully, I just received a clutch of travel-size beauty goodies, so I rounded up what I’m going to take with me:

+ Blow Pro Damage Control Daily Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner — because a girl’s gotta have clean hair and a good blowout no matter is she’s standing on the Cliffs of Moher or throwing back a beer at the Guinness Storehouse.

+ Sebastian Professional Shaper Zero Gravity — this brushable, lightweight hairspray will keep my topknots in place.

+ Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment — I am a hair-oil junkie, and I refuse to blow-dry my hair without some…no matter where I am in the world.

+ Cuccio Naturalé Pomegranate & Fig Butter — you may not know this brand (it’s carried in nail salons), but let me tell you a secret: This is my favorite lotion, hands down. AH-MAY-ZING.

+ Mario Badescu Skin Care Citrus Body Cleanser — we’re staying at a bunch of Bed & Breakfast locations, so I’m not sure what their soap situation is; this brand is the skin bomb.

+ Le Mieux Phyto-Nutrient Cleansing Gel and Skin Protective Emulsion SPF 30 — clean, protected skin is happy skin.

+ Arcona Peptide Eye Serum — happy, non-puffy eyes makes for a happier Karie when she looks back at her vacation photos. Truth.

+ FixMySkin Healing BalmI’ve sung this lip and body balm’s praises, and I’ll be slathering it on whenever my lips need hydration.

+ Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb — one of my signature scents. Side story: The first full-size bottle I ever got of this (and, trust me when I say: It ain’t cheap) was stolen from my luggage when I traveled to Los Angeles. I was devastated. So taking a travel-size of this allows it to never leave my side.

And that’s that! I’m super-excited, but I also made sure to plan ahead and schedule blogs to post while I’m gone…so, not to fear: Fear No Beauty will still be serving up beauty stories in my absence.

Ireland, here I come!
