Who doesn’t want to look beautiful, confident and fearless during the cold weather season? And yet we sometimes feel we need to sacrifice fashion in favor of warmth, throwing on layer after layer and feeling like we’re schlepping our clothes around with us rather than wearing clothes that makes us feel good. This doesn’t have to be so; consider investing in some chic new winter wardrobe items, such as beautiful cardigans, eye-catching accessories and ultra-sleek winter pants. Every fearless beauty loves stepping out of her front door and starting her day knowing she looks and feels amazing. By letting go of some of your out-of-date wardrobe items and picking up a few key pieces of winter-wear, you’ll have everything you need to make a beautiful and chic fashion statement this winter.
My first winter fashion “do”: Pair dark-color leggings or skinny jeans with stylish boots and a long patterned cardigan. Beautiful cardys in thick cottons and cashmere blends are available in a huge array of colors. Trust me: Women of all ages and sizes can slip on a loose cardigan and look fashionable; the key is to make sure that it belts at the waist to show off your fabulous curves.
This year, cardigans are available in bulky styles that provide plenty of creativity for mixing and matching. Their bulk works best with skinnier silhouettes on the bottom—hence the leggings or skinny jeans suggestion. Pop them over a T-shirt and loop a scarf around your neck and you’re good to go. You can complete this comfy look with a breezy hairstyle, like a loosely knotted bun, and add a pair of thin silver hoop earrings.
Other fashion items you’ll want to fill out your winter wardrobe: Pleated, knee-length skirts and knee-high boots are a great addition to any woman’s closet. These items can be paired with super-feminine oxford shirts and dainty fashion jewelry to achieve an urban-casual look. And though the maxi dress is often associated with summer, it’s equally perfect for the winter and can be worn with printed scarves, trendy blazers and beautiful, satin shoes. Just be cautious; summer-appropriate maxi dresses (think summery floral prints or beachy motifs) aren’t what you’re looking for. Go darker with your maxi. And shoes! Shoes this year that you should consider adding to your wardrobe include boots (ankle, knee and over-the-knee—take your pick!), sleek pumps and fashionable wedges.
No matter what types of colors and prints you like, women’s fashions this winter are vibrant and are available in a large array of sophisticated styles that won’t make you look or feel frumpy. Finding your perfect cold-weather style can be accomplished by allowing your inner fashion queen to reign supreme. Don’t be afraid to get creative, but above all, make sure you invest in a few must-have pieces (a long scarf, some knee-high boots and that cool cardigan!) that can be paired with a variety of wardrobe items for maximum flexibility. —Anya Sarre
